Members of the Greendale student council have connected with Asheville High School in North Carolina. Asheville was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene earlier this Fall. Greendale High School's special education department has been striving to provide transition services for students with disabilities. This includes transition planning related to employment, post-secondary education, independent living, recreation and leisure, and vocational training. Any financial support will go directly to the transition program. Funds will be used to replenish supplies for our Poppin' Panthers micro-business and to sponsor community outings, college tours, job shadows, etc. We appreciate any support and thank you for your consideration. GRAFFITI is our team name and our mission statement - in addition to designing, building, and programming robots for competition, we share FIRST and STEM in our community by mentoring elementary and middle school robotics teams, hosting STEM events and robot demos, and engaging in STEM advocacy. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is the largest high school robotics competition in the world. On Monday January 15, 2024, the nation celebrates the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Greendale Schools will celebrate Dr. King’s legacy with a day of service and some professional learning. MLK Day is the only Federal Holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their community. For the 2024 Community Day of Service we will embrace Greendale Serving Greendale. Addressing food insecurity for children is our priority since this is one of our greatest student needs. Please consider making a monetary donation that can be used to help a family experiencing hunger. Our goal is to pack backpacks with food and/or supplies for children in need. We are prioritizing addressing food insecurity for children since this is one of our greatest student needs.

In 2022, GRAFFITI had a more successful rookie FIRST Robotics Competition season than any of us could have imagined, winning: Milwaukee Regional Rookie All-Star Award Seven Rivers Regional Engineering Inspiration Award Rookie All-Star Award in our division at the FIRST Championship in Houston, TX In addition to our robot, we shared STEM with our community, including mentoring Greendale Schools’ FIRST LEGO League teams, doing robotics read-alouds, making bilingual STEM kits for elementary students, and demoing our robot at local events. This year we are leading the student planning committee for the Wisconsin FIRST Advocacy Day advocating for increased robotics funding. This season, we hope to repeat our success and continue to expand our team, which is already at 23 members and counting! Robots are Expensive! Our budget this year is $27,000. You might wonder what we spend all of that money on! It costs us almost $10,000 just to register for the season, tournaments, and scrimmages. Greendale Schools has selected the Milwaukee Diaper Mission for the 2023 Community Day of Service. The community is asked to donate diapers and feminine protection (period) items at any Greendale School, the Park & Rec Office, or Greendale Welcome Center, from Jan. 9 through Jan 13. Monetary donations are accepted through this website. All donations will benefit the Milwaukee Diaper Mission. On January 16, Greendale Schools staff will be assembling the diaper and personal hygiene (feminine protection) packs, which will be delivered to Milwaukee Diaper Mission to support needs in our community.
